Sridevi’s struggle with Hindi continues

This is not the first time Sridevi has a language supervisor for her film

Sridevi character in her comeback film ‘English Vinglish’ is quite close to the struggle the actress faced in her real life while working on Hindi films in Bollywood.

The south Indian actress had her bit of struggle with her Hindi when she stepped into Bollywood. Where on one side knowing and being fluent with Tamil made her dominance in South Indian cinema rather easy, her journey in Bollywood has had a lot of frictions because her command over Hindi was weak. Since she was not comfortable with Hindi, she always had a teacher by her side when shot her scenes.

So little wonder that on the sets of 'English Vinglish', Sridevi had lyricist Kausar Munir as her a full time language supervisor. Munir has worked on films like 'Ishaqzaade' and 'Ek Tha Tiger' and is director Gauri’s friend and took up the assignment to assist her.  "Gauri is a dear friend. During the pre-production, she called me and asked me to be the language consultant for Sridevi. I wanted to contribute in any way possible and also am a huge fan of Sridevi's films like Chaalbaaz and Chandni. I started doing workshops with Sri two months before the film went on floors. Then Gauri suggested that I should be present on the sets as well." So when she was shooting for her film English Vinglish abroad, Munir was there to help Sridevi juggle between Hindi and English language in the film.

The film which is produced by Rakesh Jhunjhunwaala, R Damani, Sunil Lulla and R Balki is a story of a woman’s struggle with the English language and the insecurities she faces because of it. The film shot mostly in abroad captures her transformational journey.
