Imran and Anushka promote 'Matru ki Bijlee Ka Mandola'
Imran Khan, who will be seen in a brand new Haryanvi avatar in his next film "Matru ki Bijlee Ka Mandola", said initially the character was very tough for him and he thought he had made a big mistake taking it up.
"During the first script reading of the film, I was unable to say the Haryanvi dialogues. It was not easy, I felt I made a big mistake and I should back out," he said at the trailer launch of the film.
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, the comedy-drama also stars Anushka Sharma, Pankaj Kapoor and Shabana Azmi. "When I told him (Vishal Bhardwaj) I won't be able to do it, he said he was sure I could. He had faith in me, even when I didn't," the actor added.
The actor will be playing such a rustic role for the first time and said that he devoted almost two to three months in preparing for the it.
"The role is different. It required a lot of preparation for almost two and a half months. I have always felt that the more we rehearse, the better we perform," he said.
Imran has often worked with new directors like Shakun Batra and Abhinay Deo, but the actor was happy to work with an experienced director this time.
"He (Bhardawaj) was very calm on the set and guided all the performers. Even if something was not working out, he would find a way to make it work. He knows the right way to do things," he said.
Talking about Imran's look in the film, Bhardwaj said that he wanted to give him a completely different look. "I wanted to see Matru in Imran. I had liked him in 'Delhi Belly' but I wanted to do more. He was very patient with me and we finally achieved the look," he said referring to the actor's over grown beard and rustic look in the film.
All of Bhardwaj's films have strong female characters and the director seems to have maintained the same with his heroine Anushka Sharma as well. "My female characters are always very strong. It comes naturally. I see women as stronger than men in real life as well," he said.
Talking about being paired with Imran for the first time, Anushka said that she never thought they would look like the way they do. "This is the first time we are working together. I never thought we would look like this. But Imran has looked the hottest in the film," Anushka said.
SRK & Gauri: The real love story
Shahrukh, a Hindu College grad, saw Gauri Chibbad and fell in love with her instantly. She was everything he aspired to be – cool, classy and sophisticated. Any other guy would’ve left it at that with a girl way out of his league but not Shahrukh.
He relentlessly pursued her and finally managed to get her to like him. That was in 1984 and both were so much in love that none even gave a thought to them belonging to different religions and the staunch opposite ones at that.
They had secret rendezvous as they were afraid of Gauri’s parents and how furious they might be considering that she belonged to a typical Hindu Brahmin family. The pleasant lovelorn days passed by until a fateful day when Gauri just disappeared without telling Shahrukh anything of her whereabouts.
Shahrukh, like a typical Scorpio, was an extremely possessive guy and used to hate it if Gauri wore a swimsuit to the pool or even let her hair down occasionally. He wanted all of her to himself and used to burn with jealousy if other boys so much as looked at her. Unsurprisingly Gauri couldn’t take it anymore and decided to go to Mumbai. But Shahrukh, mad as he was for her, decided to go there too as soon as he found out.
After telling his mother and arranging for some money he followed after her without having a clue how he would find her. But he managed to do so after frantic searching and as they say rest is history. At that moment both knew that it would be impossible for them to stay apart.
Gauri’s parents were completely against it, and understandably so, as Shahrukh was as aspiring actor at the time and wasn’t financially stable.
But finally Shahrukh managed to convince Gauri’s parents in full ‘DDLJ’ style and they had a court marriage followed by a Hindu as well as Muslim ritual weddings in 1991.
It’s been two decades since and this couple’s been going as strong as ever. There were rumors earlier of their marriage being on the rocks but those were just that – rumors. Gauri has stuck with her husband through thick and thin without losing her identity in the process, a quality rarely found in super successful married couples. She is a producer and an interior designer apart from being a complete style diva. And to top it all, she’s a perfect mommy to her two kids – Aryan & Suhana
When asked what they like about each other the most, Shahrukh says he admires the amount of patience that she has while Gauri says she is proud of how hard working he is and loves his ability to make her laugh, and laugh hard.
In today’s world when happy and successful marriages are few and far between (and more so in the glitz and glamour of Bollywood), this couple gives you hope that if you have your basics right, you could actually star in a ‘forever after’ love story.

The actress opened up about her first meeting with husband-actor Dharmendra during an appearance on music reality show recently.
During the shoot Hema, who was accompanied by Dharmendra, revealed that she first saw the legendary actor while he was shooting for the movie "Baharein Phir Bhi Aayengi" and immediately fell for him.
She was all praise for Dharmendra and called him "King Of Romance".
